Friends, it was announced today that 970am Fox Sports Radio Pittsburgh will be converting to the ESPN brand name at the top of the new year. Only a slight time change for Tunch and I.

970 is Pittsburgh’s New Home for ESPN Radio

Pittsburgh, PA- Clear Channel Pittsburgh announced that its AM 970 (WBGG) will become the new home of ESPN Radio, as ESPN Radio 970, on January 1, 2011.
The new ESPN Radio 970 will present ESPN Radio Network’s Mike and Mike in the Morning (6-10 a.m. ET) with Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic, and The Scott Van Pelt Show (2-4 p.m.) with the host and Ryen Russillo.
ESPN 970 will continue to present Pittsburgh’s own Joe Bendel Show, with the former Pittsburgh Tribune-Review Steelers and Pitt beat writer, and In The Locker Room with Tunch and Wolf featuring former Steelers Tunch Illkin and Craig Wolfley.
The station is also the AM home of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh Penguins, and West Virginia football and basketball, as well as the syndicated Jim Rome Show (noon-2 p.m. M-F).
“We are excited to be able to move the legendary ESPN Radio brand in the Pittsburgh market to the 970 AM frequency” said Clear Channel Radio Pittsburgh President and Market Manager, Dennis Lamme. “It will further enhance the hold Clear Channel has on the Pittsburgh Sports Scene.”
Jim Roberts, executive director, affiliate sales ESPN Radio, said, “We are thrilled to enter this partnership with Clear Channel/Pittsburgh allowing us to seamlessly transition from our current place on the dial to our new home at ESPN Radio 970. We expect the combination of national and local studio programming, and play-by-play events, to create a ‘Golden Triangle’ of great sports listening for the passionate Pittsburgh fans.”
