Tunch and Wolf Walk for the Homeless

This Saturday, May 15th is the annual Tunch and Wolf “Walk for the Homeles.” The walk benefits the Light of Life Rescue Mission on the North side of Pittsburgh. Light of Life has been serving the broken, the needy, and the hopeless for over fifty years on the north shore of Pittsburgh.

Jesus said in Matthew 22:39 to “Love your neighbor as yourself” and listed it as the second greatest commandment for us to follow. This is exactly what the Mission does. Light of Life is on the front lines, right in the trenches, providing meals, housing and restoring lives that have been shattered through addiction and circumstance.

My former teammate with the Steelers and brother for thirty years, Tunch Ilkin,  has been a friend of Light of Life since 1987. Tunch kept challenging me to come down to the Mission and see for myself the hope restored to people who had come to the Mission absolutely broken. I did go, and I saw for myself that what Tunch had said “When you go through those doors, you are forever changed” was true.

So I too have become a friend of the Mission and invite anybody who has a heart for the broken, the needy, the homeless to join with us this Saturday at the Station Square Amphitheater for the 10K walk. Registration starts at 8:30, the walk itself kicks off at 10:00 am. There will be food, face painters, bands, food, retired and current Steelers, food, and oh, did I mention food? Bring the family and have a great time as we celebrate fifty plus years of work that the Light of Life Rescue Mission has been doing in meeting the needs of the brokenhearted. And you can get a little cardio while you’re at it!

See you there!
