Folks no podcast this weekend; off to Miami to cover the Steelers. It was a great shoot-out this past Thursday night at the Chartiers Valley stadium, the home away from home field of the Seton LaSalle Rebels. South Fayette beats Seton-LaSalle, 42-35
Two hook-and-laterals, a reception by a lineman and 77 points later, South Fayette spoiled Seton-LaSalle’s homecoming Thursday with a 42-35 win at Chartiers Valley High School.
“Any time they put us on TV we try to make it interesting,” Lions coach Joe Rossi said.
South Fayette, the Post-Gazette’s No. 3 team in Class AA, improved to 8-0 and took sole possession of first place in the Century Conference with a 6-0 conference record. The Rebels fell to 7-1, 5-1 and second place in the conference.
In a 42-point second quarter, South Fayette’s Zach Challingsworth stood out. He caught touchdown passes from Christian Brumbaugh of 30 and 17 yards and recovered a fumble that he ran 9 yards for a touchdown. Challingsworth had five catches for 90 yards.
Each team ran a hook-and-lateral play, both in the second quarter. Seton-LaSalle’s Mike Del Sardo caught a pass, then pitched it to Kevin Hart for a 20-yard touchdown. For South Fayette, Challingsworth caught a pass from Brumbaugh, then pitched it to Jeff Davis for a 19-yard total gain.
