    Just Some Thoughts

    On April 13, 2012 By

There’s no doubt about the culpability of Sean Payton and Greg Williams in handing out cash bounty rewards. It’s bad stuff folks, no ifs, ands, or buts. But certainly the hype machine that is all over the NFL breaking the latest news of the latest bounty offered by then Saints DC Gregg Williams with the [...]

Knowing when to pull the plug on a career is not easy. Whether a doctor, lawyer, pastor, priest or “waste disposal technician,” all occupations carry with them the same general comcerns in determining when to say when.

There are so many mitigating circumstances that revolve around the decision-making process which accompany the acknowledgement that [...]

        Leadership

So the New York J-e-t-s are going to bury the hatchet and engage in a little “team building” eh? Hmmm…i always get a little squeamish when i hear teams are going to engage in team building. I thought that was what training camp was for.

Years ago when i went to the Minnesota Vikings [...]

Though i publicly maintain that i am no fan of Patriots coach Bill Belichick (hey look, it’s a family honor thing. He cut my brother when he coached in Cleveland), i must confess that i do have an admiration for the way he conducts business. For instance, in Indy this week while practicing, Belichick pulls [...]

            Huddle Tempo

            On December 16, 2011 By

In and out of the huddle is a term i heard from Steelers head coach Chuck Noll time and again. Increase the tempo, pick up the pace or just flat out “Move it!” are other short quips i’ve heard used to describe the importance of getting with it in-between plays.

Why is that so important? [...]

              Here We Go Again

After viewing the James Harrison hit on Colt McCoy in live time from the sidelines, the first thought i had was “Here we go again.” And i’m convinced that i’m right. James will hear from the Commish, no doubt and to no one’s suprise.

What really bothers me is that there is talk of a [...]

“I think the fine that Ryan Clark received was excessive. I am a proponent of player safety and the league’s pursuit of improvement in this area. I, like the vast majority of people in this industry, witness daily the steep price that these young men pay to play this game on so many levels. Ryan [...]

After reviewing tape from the season opening loss to the “Angry Birds” otherwise known as the Baltimore Ravens the total went something like this according to the research of Tunch Ilkin.

On 26 run plays, Casey Hampton got cut/chop blocked 8 times. Defensive end Aaron Smith got whacked 4 times. Since that game the cut [...]

                    Brady Rules of the Game

The New England Patriots passing game is lethal. Everybody knows it, and everybody tries to do something about it, most ending in futility. I’ve spent a week watching tape on the Patriots

                    The rules of the game, so to speak, of beating Tom Brady include;

                    1. Possess the football, keep Brady on the bench. (Score [...]

                      Synergy, Chuck Noll Style

                      On October 27, 2011 By

When you look at the Patriots offensive line, some curious observations can be made. They appear to operate opposite of what other lines in the NFL do.

On pass plays they are very aggressive in their short sets, engaging opposing defenders quickly even when there is no play-action. They “set-short” and make it a phone [...]

In last years loss to the Patriots 39-26, the Pats blitzed (if the stats compiled by Greg Bedard are accurate) Ben Roethlisberger on average, nearly every other throw. In Ben’s first 6 throws, the Patriots blitzed him 6 times, twice sending 6 guys. This kind’a pressure produced 4 sacks, 12 hurries and 3 knockdowns.
